Panayotis Fragkiskos League

Panayotis Fragkiskos League is a PhD candidate in Ethnomusicology at Harvard University, writing a dissertation on traditional music and dance in Greek America. More broadly, he studies music, dance, and oral poetry in insular Greece (particularly Crete and Kalymnos) and Northeastern Brazil. He is also a research assistant at the Milman Parry Collection of Oral Literature, cataloguing James Notopoulos’ field recordings from his 1952–53 trip to Greece and Cyprus. He plays Greek, Irish, and Brazilian music on various stringed instruments, percussion, accordion, and the tsambouna bagpipe, frequently performs and records throughout the Americas and Europe, and teaches Modern Greek Studies at Hellenic College in Brookline, Massachusetts.
